Rally for housing rights
Unite members are being urged to throw their weight behind amendments to new housing legislation designed to give councils the power to build and improve council houses for the first time in a generation.

But housing activists warned that the amendments to the new housing Bill could fall without hard lobbying at grass roots level. The amendments, tabled by the council housing group of MPs are due to be heard on 31 March during the housing Bill’s third reading.

Defend Council Housing chair Alan Walter urged Unite members to contact their MP ‘sooner rather than later’. He told @ctivist: ‘This Bill is an opportunity for government to listen to the people.

'The private sector has never delivered. It's time Ministers dropped the dogma and invested in council housing once again.’ ‘Make sure that tenants organisations, community groups, trade unions and local councillors make representations too.’
