Beverage Bulletin... Constellation Europe Reinforce Eco Credentials
Constellation Europe, Red Bull, Pernod Ricard, Adnams, Beer sales, Anheuser-Busch InBev

Constellation Europe is to unveil a radical new look at the Australia Day Tastings across the entire Banrock Station wine portfolio which will reinforce the eco credentials of this top ten UK wine brand.
The distinctive new label design features a modern art style image of a tree flowering from a wine bottle and encapsulates the brand's tagline ‘Good Earth - Fine Wine'. The logo has been redesigned to focus on ‘Banrock' - the more memorable and meaningful part of the brand name for consumers. The overall effect is a clean, premium, fresh new look for this well-loved Australian wine brand that will provide great stand out on shelf.

Red Bull is to start another marketing campaign kicking off with the return of the cartoon ad which will be back on screens from February. The announcement comes off the back of a fantastic Christmas performance for the brand with 34m cans flying off the shelves in December alone; the third highest Red Bull Sales in the UK for any month in the company's history. Alongside the new TV creative, part of the 'Red Bull Gives you Wings' concept, Red Bull will once again be giving consumers unique experiences through ground breaking regional and national events some of which have never been seen before in the UK.

Pernod Ricard has signed fresh distribution deals for its drinks brands in the US with Southern Wine & Spirits of America and Republic National Distributing Company.

Beer sales fell by 8.3% in the final quarter of 2008. The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) recorded the highest fourth quarter fall since records began, with 2.2m fewer pints of beer bought every day in pubs, restaurants and shops compared with the same period in 2007. In total, beer sales for the whole of 2008 dropped 5.5 % compared with 2007. The BBPA blamed the decline in sales on the Government's 18% rise in beer duty in 2008.

Southwold-based brewer Adnams is freezing its wholesale beer prices across all on-trade accounts for the whole of 2009. The brewer, which has warned that 2008 profits would be “substantially” lower than 2007 due to falling sales as a result of the economic downturn, said the freeze showed its commitment to the on-trade. It has 70 of its own pubs plus around 1,000 freetrade accounts and is listed in a further 4,500 pubs and bars across the country. "We are having two nuclear winters — one in the economy and a subsidiary one in the on-trade," said managing director Andy Wood.

Anheuser-Busch InBev has sold its 19.99% stake in China’s Tsingtao Brewery to Asahi Breweries of Japan for £468m. The world’s largest beermaker by sales, created last year through the merger of two major breweries, has made it clear that it would sell non-core assets to help pay for the deal. The group secured £32bn in debt financing, which included £4.1bn in bridge financing “for divestitures of non-core assets from both companies”.
