King’s College London is pleased to announce the creation of ten ‘King’s Excellence Awards’ to our most distinguished Study Abroad students in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Starting on 1 January 2009, five students per semester will receive a ‘King’s Excellence Award’, each worth £ 2,500 for students studying one semester, or £3,500 for students studying at King’s for the whole academic year.
We firmly believe that the experience of studying abroad makes an invaluable contribution to the academic and personal growth of the students we receive. For this reason, the awards will be made to candidates of outstanding quality, who can best demonstrate how their time at King’s builds on their academic record, and how it will help fulfil their personal and academic ambitions.
Conditions of the Awards
Students must have been accepted to Study Abroad at King’s for at least one semester. The Awards are open to any successful Study Abroad students who study predominantly in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Applications for scholarships must be received by the College deadline for study abroad applications. Successful applicants will receive notification of their award within three weeks of the deadline.
To be eligible, students must choose courses equivalent to at least three quarters of their total credit value in the Schools of Humanities and Social Sciences and Public Policy. If it is not possible for the College to accommodate the students’ first choice of courses, the initial choice made will still validate the eligibility of students to apply.
Criteria for selection
Students will be selected on the basis of their overall academic performance to date, and their performance in the subjects relevant to their application (up to four subjects can be selected by the student on the application form).
In addition, the panel will consider the students’ case for receiving an award made in the personal statement, in which the applicants reflect on how their study at King’s relates to their personal and academic development to date, and how they will be able to benefit from it in the future.
