The Kogod School of Business believes that the notion of education should be extended beyond the classroom to include experiential learning that will enhance students’ intellectual development, leadership ability, communication skills, and professional self-confidence. With this in mind, Kogod created a “lab” for business students, where activities that allow student to experiment with valuable professional skills in real-world settings are developed and supported.
“The K-Lab has helped organize all of the Kogod student organizations. It has integrated the clubs and helped us work closer together with the faculty,” says KSB undergraduate student and President of the on-campus American Marketing Association Anna Rappoport.
The K-lab includes both graduate and undergraduate clubs, as well as new student orientation programs, the annual case competition, Road Scholars, Washington Initiative, the 1955 club, commencement, and the leadership library.
“The K-Lab has been a great addition for the graduate clubs and GBA this year,” says Anar Pathak, president of the Graduate Business Association.
“The K-Lab helps us be productive leaders by offering resources and guidance, which makes it easier to take leadership roles and still focus on academics. Being involved and taking a leadership role has been more efficient and rewarding than it has been in the past due to the implementation of the K-Lab for graduate students,” says Pathak.
Allison Holcomb, director of programming and student activities, agrees. “It’s very personal when students can see such a connection between what they’re learning in the classroom and a real-life situation, especially when it’s connected to service,” said Holcomb.
