Gregory L. DeShields, senior director of corporate relations for the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), received the 2009 Apex Award for Distinguished Service in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of tourism and hospitality, and his positive impact on travel and tourism. Such a compliment is not received without a great deal of effort from those nominated.
“Throughout my career I have felt a strong desire to not just work in this field, but create a positive impact,” said DeShields. “This may range from career development for promising new talent to addressing specific challenges facing the industry.”
Presented by Black Meetings and Tourism Magazine (BMT), the award ceremony took place on May 15, 2009, during the Travel Professionals of Color Seventh Annual Conference in Buffalo, N.Y. This event is organized to aid in the success of minority travel professionals.
“Both organizations have a well-respected reputation in the tourism and hospitality industry and have acknowledged numerous industry professionals,” said DeShields. “I am excited to join the list of prestigious recipients.”
Temple University and STHM congratulate Gregory DeShields in his accomplishment, and will continue to support his efforts for what’s sure to be a future of further success.
