Professor Ira G. Shapiro Receives Stauffer Award for Outstanding Faculty Service
On the first day Ira Shapiro arrived on Main Campus, he was warned that it’s possible to get hooked on Temple. Thirty-six years later, he admits he’s addicted. And because of his strong commitment to his students and the countless hours he has spent participating in numerous committees, Shapiro was recognized for his service.
On March 6, Shapiro received Temple University’s Stauffer Award for Outstanding Faculty Service at the Temple University Alumni Associations annual Founder’s Celebration.

Temple, Stedman Graham partner to inspire Philadelphia High School Students
Only about one-half of ninth graders in the Philadelphia Public School District will graduate in four years, according to research funded this past fall by the William Penn Foundation and other local and national foundations.
In an attempt to reverse this trend freshman and juniors from Philadelphia’s William Penn High School gathered at Temple University for a motivational workshop led by Stedman Graham, creator of the Move Without the Ball program.

2 Top Hospitality Businesses Team with Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management
The Hub CityView and The Hub Cira Centre, two upscale meeting and event centers, needed brand development; The Fort Washington Hotel & Conference Center needed to reintroduce itself after remodeling. To accomplish their goals, both of these local hospitality businesses partnered with Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Why Temple? For the past six years, “Hotel/Lodging Operations Management,” an elective course for Tourism and Hospitality Management majors, has teamed up with regional entertainment venues and hotels for an ultimate hands-on learning experience: a sales blitz, which in the past has generated tens of thousands of dollars in bookings.

STHM’s Future of Tourism Forum – Effective Destinations Marketing
Increasingly, effective tourism promotion and the Internet are becoming more strongly intertwined.
That was the message delivered at the Third Annual Forum for the Future of Tourism: A Leadership Summit on Advertising and the Internet, on Feb. 22-23 in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Borgata Casino and Spa. The main topic of this conference, sponsored by Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), was the importance of the Internet in advertising and promoting a particular destination.
