The Franklin Institute partners with the National Laboratory for Tourism and eCommerce to evaluate the visitor experience of the King Tut exhibit

This year, Philadelphia displayed one of the world’s most renowned ancient exhibits, attracting 1.3 million visitors when the Franklin Institute hosted “Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs”, February through September 2007.

Eager to gain insight into visitors’ encounter with the exhibit, The Franklin Institute teamed up with Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management’s (STHM) National Laboratory for Tourism and eCommerce (NLTeC) to evaluate the visitor’s experience.

“Our analysis of these surveys was key in providing direction to the Franklin Institute by not only creating guidelines to evaluate the success of the King Tut exhibit, but more importantly by helping them gain new insights to carryout successful exhibits in the future," said study facilitators and STHM Instructor Julie Fesenmaier.

NFL Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow encourages students to 'play golf'
Executive-in-Residence

Play golf.

Of all the advice Kellen Winslow offered sports and recreation administration graduate students, he made sure that one point got across during his Oct. 9th lecture in Walk Auditorium.

Winslow, who played for the San Diego Chargers from 1979 to 1987, spoke to students in Professor Michael Jackson’s “Administration of Sport & Recreation” class about how he entered the sports administration field. Currently, he is director of planning and new event development for Disney Sports Attractions, which encompasses the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, five championship golf courses, recreational activities and numerous sports within the Walt Disney World Resorts.

Tourism students summer intern at Ripley Castle in North Yorkshire, England

The recent partnership of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and its first international executive-in-residence, Sir Thomas Ingilby, gave two lucky STHM students, senior Bridget Clark and junior Mary Wojtkowski, the opportunity to intern at the famous Ripley Castle in North Yorkshire, England for the summer 2007.

Sir Thomas, current owner of the castle and estate, has turned his historic home, located inside the quaint village of Ripley, into an event venue capable of holding large weddings and corporate outings.
